I wonder ...

... whether the guys behind this know about this?

It's a pleasure to see as many projects as possible making use of Avahi. OTOH I believe that all solutions should speak the same protocol. Using Apple's somewhat standardized link-local iChat/XMPP protocol (which is what Telekinesis does) seems to be the best option to me: because you get MacOSX interoperability for free and many IM clients (including many on Windows) already contain support for this as well.

Hmm... as long as the other side still needs a special client to get the files, this situation will continue to be a screwup.

I would look into unified personal servers supporting multi-protocol file serving, with micro-web server and upload to a hosting-space as minimum, and with avahi/smb share as the other extreme.

Yes, they already know, we even met at GUADEC! :)

We both use telepathy-salut for link-local XMPP but at the moment they are using Tubes to send files and to synchronize, while the right solution will be to use the XMPP file-transfer support we're developing for the Telekinesis project.
