Back from India

FOSS.in was one of the best conferences I have ever been to, and a lot of fun. The organization was flawless and I can only heartily recommend everyone to send in a presentation proposal for next year's iteration. I certainly hope the commitee is going to accept my proposals next year again. Especially the food was gorgeous.

I will spare you the usual conference photos, you can find a lot of those on flickr. However, what I will not spare you are a couple of photos I shot in Bangalore, Srirangapatna and Mysore.

The panorama looks awesome. Remove the cables and it will look even awesomerer.

So, you liked it :)
See you again next year ...

I can't agree more. The event was surprisingly awesome. I did enjoy your talks - Avahi and PulseAudio. I did mention them in my blog -  http://lampcomputing.com/node/52

Cheers

Cool! Though you forgot to mention the food poisoning you got from mixing lassi and mango. :)

Great pictures, but IMHO a "Read more..." link after the first paragraph would have been much friendlier for people like me who read Planet Gnome.

Amazing pictures!

Thanks for sharing your great pictures. In my eyes modern (western?) architecture pales in comparison with these beautiful buildings. Things don't seem always get better with time.

Hey, what is the copyright license on these photos? They are amazing - I'm sure Wikipedia would LOVE to host and use them if they were under a compatible license!!!!

Posted by Lennart at Sun Jan 18 14:58:40 2009
Chris: CC-BY-SA 3.0. I am just to lazy to upload them to Wikipedia.

Just curious, did you use a tripod to take the panorama shots (I am asking since tripods are banned in these monuments, IIRC)?

Also, which software did you use to stitch the photos together?

And the EXIF data would be useful for photography enthusiasts like me.

Great shots nevertheless!

Posted by Lennart at Wed Jan 21 15:19:23 2009
Baishampayan: no tripod. Just from my bare hands. That's why some of the panoramas actually have considerable errors in them if you look closely. It's all stitched with Hugin. And the gallery includes the seperate shots with EXIF data.

Nice panoramas! For how long are you staying?

I really enjoyed Hampi as well during my semester abroad in India. It had such a nice atmosphere and so much to see! Be sure not to miss out on the elephant stables...

These pictures are simply beautiful - looks like you picked an amazing place to see!

Are you willing to apply a CC:(A|SA|NC) licence to them so that they can be packaged up as loop-able wallpapers for the Nokia N900 (it runs PulseAudio!).  If not, no worries :)

Cheers,

These are beautiful, Lennart. You going to FOSDEM...?

Posted by Lennart at Fri Jan 15 15:24:46 2010
Nick: They are all CC-BY-SA. One my other photo pages it explicitly says that, on these ones this applies too though I never put the text there. And I actually already uploaded one of them to n900wallpapers.com a few days ago but somehow it hasn't shown up there yet...

Lefty: Yes, I will!

Your blog seems to be syndicated slightly differently in Planet Gnome and Planet Freedesktop. The permalink in Planet Gnome includes a trailing .html whereas the freedesktop one doesn't. Since I subscribe to both planets on Google Reader I get your posts twice as it can't see they are the same. Any way you could fix this?

Thanks,

Pedro

Your 360 Degrees photos are amazing :)
beautiful landscapes.
What software do you use for that ?

Thanks.

Posted by seringen at Sat Jan 16 08:55:34 2010
thanks for this - i once spent a number of beautiful days in udaipur. we were able to witness a wedding on Jagmandir Island, and to this day if i really had to do a huge wedding, i've always dreamed about going back there.

also love hugin! I occasionally use it with some terrible camera phone pictures to great effect.

Posted by Kevin at Sun Jan 17 16:07:17 2010
Is it just me or are these actually 180 degree images, since you don't go all the way around.

Posted by Lennart at Sun Jan 17 17:39:09 2010
Cali: Clicking on them will tell you that it is Hugin these pics are made with.

Kevin: Yes, these three are not 360°. The first one and second is probably something like 160°, the third one 200° or so.

Posted by Lennart at Mon Jan 18 00:10:12 2010
Johannes: I've been there in Nov. I am already back in Europe since a month now.

Hi Lennart! Which lens did you use for the panoramas? they seem quite distorted so i assume some kind of wide angle? anyway, great set of photos!

Posted by Aurélien Gâteau at Wed Jan 20 09:34:34 2010
That was a wonderful series of pictures, thanks for sharing!

Posted by Jordi at Wed Jan 20 10:32:53 2010
These were all awesome. Thanks for the series, Lennart!

Posted by Lx at Mon Feb 8 07:25:50 2010
hi;

great photos!

was wondering what the licensing is on them? (& if we can use them @ wikimedia? or are they already there?)

Posted by Lennart at Wed Feb 10 17:42:56 2010
Lx: they are all CC-SA 3.0. And I uploaded one to wikipedia (hampi), but I got bored doing so. But if you want to upload them, I can only encourage you to!
